  • Egg screening

    Hey!

I've had 2 missed miscarriages and been diagnosed with very low AMH levels (2.1) at 32 years old!

I had been told my best chance of a successful pregnancy was IVF combined with egg screening.

Has anyone done egg screening and found it to be successful for them? It costs a lot more and I'm worried that it won't work.

    Thanks x

I'm sorry to hear about your difficult journey. Egg screening, also known as pre-implantation genetic screening (PGS) or pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), can be a useful tool for identifying healthy embryos during an IVF cycle. PGS involves testing the embryos for chromosomal abnormalities, while PGD can test for specific genetic diseases.

The success rate of egg screening can vary depending on individual factors such as age, the quality of the embryos, and the specific genetic conditions being screened for. It is important to discuss the potential benefits and limitations of egg screening with your healthcare provider to determine if it is the right option for you.

Wishing you all the best on your journey towards parenthood.

I'm sorry to hear about your struggles with miscarriages and low AMH levels. Facing such challenges can be emotionally and financially draining.

Egg screening, also known as preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A), is a process used during IVF to screen embryos for chromosomal abnormalities before they are implanted in the uterus. The main goal of this screening is to select chromosomally normal embryos, which can increase the chances of a successful pregnancy and reduce the risk of miscarriages.

While egg screening can improve the chances of a successful pregnancy, it's essential to understand that it does not guarantee a pregnancy will occur. Even with the selection of chromosomally normal embryos, other factors can still influence the success of the IVF procedure, such as the uterine environment and overall health.

It's natural to have concerns about the cost and potential success of egg screening, as it can be a significant financial investment. It might be helpful to discuss your specific situation with a fertility specialist or reproductive endocrinologist. They can provide you with personalized advice based on your medical history, test results, and individual circumstances.

Additionally, consider seeking support from others who have gone through similar experiences. Online forums or support groups focused on fertility and IVF can provide valuable insights and emotional support.

Remember, everyone's fertility journey is unique, and while some individuals may have found success with egg screening, others may have taken different paths to achieve their desired outcomes. Staying informed and seeking guidance from medical professionals will be crucial as you make decisions about your fertility treatment. Wishing you all the best on your journey to parenthood.

Egg screening, also known as preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) or comprehensive chromosomal screening (CCS), is a process used during IVF to screen embryos for chromosomal abnormalities before they are implanted in the uterus. This screening is often recommended for women with a history of miscarriages or advanced maternal age to increase the chances of a successful pregnancy and reduce the risk of miscarriage.

Since PGT-A allows the selection of embryos with the correct number of chromosomes, it theoretically increases the likelihood of selecting a chromosomally normal embryo for transfer, potentially improving the success rates of IVF. However, it's important to note that the success of egg screening and IVF can vary depending on individual factors, such as the woman's age, overall health, and the specific cause of the miscarriages.

It's completely normal to have concerns about the cost and effectiveness of egg screening. While it can be expensive, some people may find it to be a worthwhile investment if it improves their chances of having a healthy pregnancy and reduces the emotional and financial toll of repeated IVF attempts. It's essential to discuss your concerns with your healthcare provider, who can provide personalized guidance based on your medical history and specific circumstances.

Additionally, consider seeking a second opinion from another fertility specialist to get a broader perspective on your situation. They may be able to offer alternative treatment options or shed light on whether egg screening is the best choice for you.

Remember that every person's fertility journey is unique, and what works for one individual may not be the best approach for another. It's crucial to be well-informed and supported throughout the process, both emotionally and medically. Consider joining support groups or seeking counseling to cope with the emotional aspects of fertility struggles.

Ultimately, make sure to have open and honest discussions with your healthcare team about your concerns, desires, and expectations regarding egg screening and IVF to make an informed decision about your fertility treatment plan. Wishing you all the best on your journey to parenthood!
